Music/Worship
The Worship Committee is a Committee of the Session of St. Andrew’s. Our responsibility is to make recommendations to the Session concerning its areas of Worship and to carry out the Session’s instructions regarding those areas.
The mandate of the Committee is to explore and implement ways to enhance Worship at St. Andrew’s. This is accomplished by:
- Involving members of the congregation during Worship.
- Being a creative resource to the minister.
- Planning and/or assisting special services (a delegated responsibility of the session)
- Prayerfully considering the needs of the congregation regarding Worship, prayers and praise, and
- Praying for the Worship at St. Andrew’s
The Worship Committee would like to hear from anyone with ideas regarding our Worship at St. Andrew’s. Comments and/or suggestion can be left at the office or given to any member of the Committee.
THE CHOIR
Our choir meets most Thursday evenings between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. from September until our Anniversary Service in June. We lead the hymn singing and sing anthems – more, of course, at Easter and Christmas Eve Services. Our anthems cover a variety of styles from traditional classics through gospel and contemporary up to four-part harmony. In the summer and during the year, soloists also perform musical offerings. We welcome new members. Although reading music is a great asset, it is not a requirement, only love of music and a good ear.
THE PRAISE TEAM
The Praise Team leads contemporary Christian music (throughout the year, except in the summer). We meet most Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 7:20 p.m. The Praise Team presently includes singers, guitars, and keyboard. Our song repertoire keeps growing to include new compositions. If you would like to help lead the singing or contribute with a musical instrument or suggest new songs, we'd be happy to meet and talk.
THE BELLS
In the spring of 1992, the Session gave permission to proceed with ordering a four-octave set of Malmark English Handbells. The bells were purchased with funds raised by the congregation. These 49 bronze bells were manufactured in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania, and arrived at the church at the end of summer. In the beginning, 38 people were willing to ring the bells, so four different choirs were formed and they all began to ring in September, 1992. A set of hand chimes was added in 1997, and bells G#7-C8 in 2008.
The Bells of St. Andrew’s Handbell Choirs continue to be a vibrant and growing part of the congregation both in services and hopefully at a St. Andrew’s spring concert 2023. We presently have two bell choirs - Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. and Friday morning at 10 a.m.. We'd love to have you join us.
The Decor Committee keeps the Sanctuary and Christian Education Hall looking delightful. The Decor coincides with the seasons and Holidays. Whether you are remembering a loved one, a special anniversary or just want to express thanksgiving or love, flowers are a nice touch. Decorate our sanctuary with flowers on your day for remembering.
